Welcome to the Jackson County School System’s Department of Special Education.

We strive to meet the individual needs of all our students.  We invite you to join us in serving your children so that, together, we can guide them in reaching their greatest potential.

The JCSS Special Education team includes, at left, elementary coordinators Melanie Brittain (standing) and Patty Griffith; and, at right, secondary coordinator Becky Edge (standing) and Jan NeSmith, director.

To prohibit discrimination and to ensure that disabled students have educational opportunities and benefits equal to those provided to non-disabled students, the U.S. Congress enacted Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, commonly referred to as “Section 504.”

The Jackson County School system implements the law through the programs of its special education department. You will find links to more information about our department and services at right.

If you are new to Jackson County and need information regarding registration or programs for your child, please contact the Special Education Department at 706-367-5151.
