Save the date – March 12 is a “snow day” make-up day

UPDATE: February 15, 2018 — The Board of Education voted February 12, 2018, to use the previously scheduled professional learning day on March 12 as a make-up day for the day we missed January 17. All students and teachers are asked to report on a regular schedule.

The change marks the second to the school system’s 2017-18 calendar. February 19, previously a day off for students and teachers will now be used as a professional learning day for teachers (remains a day off for students). February 20, previously a day off for students and a PL day for teachers will now be a regular school day for both teachers and students. The date reclaims a day of learning lost January 8 when ice was projected for our area.

January 19, 2018 — News about making up our latest round of weather-kept-us-home days: Dr. April Howard, our superintendent, announced today that she is considering a recommendation to the Board of Education that the day we missed Wednesday, Jan. 17, be made up on March 12, using the previously scheduled professional learning day for teachers (which was a day off for students), and that the day we missed Thursday, Jan. 18, be counted as made up with the Digital Learning Day assignments.

Dr. Howard said her recommendation will be made to the board in February but wanted to ask parents to reserve the date. The February work session is set for Thursday, Feb. 8, at the BOE/central office building, 1660 Winder Highway, Jefferson, adjacent to the Jackson County Comprehensive High School campus. The board’s regular monthly meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 12, at JCCHS.

Remember that changes to the original calendar for February were approved at the January BOE meeting:
Feb. 19 – remains a day off for students, but now will be a professional learning day for staff.
Feb. 20 – class WILL be held – a regular school day for students and teachers (makes up for missing Jan. 8).

(EDITED to clarify the request to RESERVE the date until a decision is made in February.)
