Information on EJMS Gifted and Advanced Programs
EJMS students that have previously been gifted identified are served through an advanced content model. Gifted students receive differentiated instruction in advanced or accelerated content courses for at least one and up to all four academic areas. Teachers at East Jackson Middle hold gifted endorsements from the State of Georgia in their academic fields, allowing them to serve the gifted population along with other students. Through performance on standardized assessments, teacher recommendations, and parent requests, students are selected for testing annually. Students are identified as gifted using Georgia's 3/4 criteria system, of which you can view a summary here. In order to remain eligible to receive gifted services, students must maintain a grade of "B" in all of their advanced academic courses. Student performance is evaluated at the end of the school year, through the gifted continuation process (which ensures student performance is adequate for them to maintain gifted eligibility).
If you have any questions about gifted services, testing, or the continuation process at East Jackson Middle School, please contact our Gifted Coordinator, Mr. Thomas Layfield: tlayfield@jcss.us
