East Jackson Middle School Eagle chorus is an award winning performance based ensemble designed to give students the opportunity to develop and improve vocal music skills. The Chorus consists of over 130 sixth and seventh grade students. Each year, the chorus competes in local and regional performance evaluation. For the 2020-2021 school year, this group placed 2nd in the Dollywood Music in the Parks Festival held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Christopher StricklandDr. Christopher Strickland has been teaching and directing choruses since 1997. His choruses consistently scored superior ratings at the Large Group Performance Evaluation. 2021 begins his second year at East Jackson Middle School. During his first year, the chorus placed second in the Music in the Parks Festival held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. In addition, the chorus has increased its enrollment by over 50%.Dr. Strickland philosophy of chorus is that anyone who likes to sing should sing. He believes that successful teaching means we take people from where they are to where they want to be and have them enjoy the ride. His motto is, "Everyday, be less wrong!"
When Dr. Strickland is not waving his arms at middle school students, he relaxes at his home with the sixteen chickens, six cats, four dogs, two lambs, and a donkey. On Saturdays in the fall, you will find him at Sanford Stadium rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs or at a FFA lamb show.
