Registered voters who live within the five Jackson County Board of Education districts will decide the results of a special election on March 19.
The BOE is seeking authorization to issue General Obligation School Bonds for construction of a new westside high school and other projects throughout the district, including the planned renovation of East Jackson Middle School and work on the Empower College & Career Center.
Early voting for the special election opened Feb. 25 at the Ponchie Beck Election Center, 441 Gordon Street, Jefferson. Hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, through March 15. There is no Saturday vote in this local election.
Other early voting locations, open only March 11-15 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., include the Braselton Police & Municipal Building, 5040 Highway 53; and the Commerce Parks & Recreation Building, 204 Carson Street.
On Tuesday, March 19, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the four designated polling places:
- Central Jackson – Hope Crossing Church, 2106 Old Pendergrass Road, Jefferson
- North Jackson – Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 190 Mt. Olive Church Road, Commerce
- West Jackson – Northeast Church, 2001 Cherry Drive, Braselton
- South Jackson – The Church at Southside, 8144 Jefferson Road, Athens
