Ted Gilbert joined the Jackson County School System as assistant superintendent for operations in January 2018 after serving 15 years with the Clarke County School District in Athens, Ga. He began his school career in 2002 as director of facility design and construction and led that district’s capital improvement program for five years, completing new schools, additions to multiple schools, building renovations throughout the district and innovative classroom technology enhancements.
In 2007, Mr. Gilbert became CCSD’s associate superintendent for district services, with responsibility for facility design and construction; plant services; custodial operations; technology infrastructure; school nutrition; transportation; school district police department; finance and business services; purchasing; and safety and energy.
Prior to his work in school systems, Mr. Gilbert managed general contracting and real estate operations for several firms. He served six years on the board of directors of the Georgia chapter of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (now the Association for Learning Environments) and was the Georgia president in 2010 and 2012.
Mr. Gilbert has been married to Liza Gilbert for 49 years and enjoys his three children and four grandchildren. He’s a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and lives in Monroe.
