Droms Approved As EJHS Assistant Principal
Laura Droms has been approved as the new assistant principal at East Jackson High School, following a vote by the Jackson County Board of Education on Monday night.
Droms will replace Lucie Ausburn, who was approved on July 1 as the new principal of West Jackson Middle School. Droms most recently served as a Spanish teacher at East Jackson High School, where she also served on the school-wide literacy team and advisor to the Jackson Student Leadership Team.
"We are delighted to welcome Ms. Droms to the administrative team here at East Jackson High School," EJHS Principal Dr. Matt Stratemeyer said. "Ms. Droms has over 22 years of educational experience and I know she will be an invaluable asset to our school and community as she transitions to her assistant principal position."
Droms' educational career began in Gwinnett County, where she served as a Spanish teacher at Grayson High School. She served as a Spanish teacher and department chair at Mountain View High School, where she helped develop county-wide assessments and eClass course pages for advanced Spanish content.
"I first would like to thank Dr. Stratemeyer, Dr. Philip Brown and the Board of Education for this opportunity," Droms said. "I am honestly thrilled to step into this role at East Jackson. I am really excited to be supporting Dr. Stratemeyer and his vision for collective collaboration, student engagement and student centered learning. Another passion of mine is supporting teachers throughout the challenges in their roles and I am looking forward to having that opportunity as the assistant principal of curriculum."
Droms holds a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Language Education from the University of Georgia, a Master's Degree in Foreign Language Education from Auburn University, a Specialist Degree in Exemplary Teacher from Valdosta State University and a Tier I Leadership Certificate from Georgia Southern University.
