EJCHS Performing Arts Center to Be Renamed to Tim and Lynne Wheeler Performing Arts Center

EJCHS Performing Arts Center to Be Renamed to Tim and Lynne Wheeler Performing Arts Center

The Jackson County Board of Education approved a resolution Monday night to rename the East Jackson Comprehensive High School Performing Arts Center to the Tim and Lynne Wheeler Performing Arts Center.

The decision to change the name is to honor the commitment made to public education by Dr. Tim Wheeler and Mrs. Lynne Massey-Wheeler, both of whom served as educators and administrators inside the Jackson County School System.

“This is a great moment for East Jackson Comprehensive High School, our school system, and, of course, the Wheeler family,” Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. “I am grateful that our Board of Education members wanted to honor the Wheeler family with the renaming of the performing arts center. Dr. Wheeler and Mrs. Wheeler are engrained inside the Jackson County community and remain tremendous advocates for public education.”

Mrs. Wheeler currently serves on the Board of Education in Jackson County and was surprised by the motion made by her fellow Board members.

“We are honored and grateful for this recognition,” the Wheeler family said. “It is an honor to know the Wheeler family name will be on East Jackson Comprehensive High School.”

Dr. Wheeler and Mrs. Wheeler have multiple decades of experience serving inside of the Jackson County School System, serving in roles that include teacher, band director, assistant principal, principal, superintendent and Board of Education member and chair.

Board member Ricky Sanders, who introduced the motion to pass the resolution, noted the Wheeler’s are residents of the East side and embody the commitment that is necessary to ensure public school education in Jackson County is better today than it was yesterday. By passing the resolution, the performing arts center at EJCHS will forever hold the name of the Tim and Lynne Wheeler Performing Arts Center.
