Empower's Blackburn Named Finalist for Principal of the Year
Empower College and Career Center Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Meri Blackburn, has been named a finalist for the Georgia Principal of the Year Award, following an announcement by the Georgia Association of Secondary Principals.
Blackburn has served in her role as the COO of Empower since the academy's inception in August of 2021. She has helped oversee the academy receiving its full certification with achievement, along with numerous programs inside the building receiving industry certification.
"I am so honored," Blackburn said. "I am exceptionally honored because I know how many fabulous principals there are in the state of Georgia. To be one of three finalists is surreal."
Blackburn's career in public education expands 28 years. She served as a Spanish teacher, International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Career Academy Coordinator, Advisement Coordinator in Clarke County, Assistant Principal of Instruction at North Oconee High School and Principal at Malcom Bridge Middle School. She served as the Director of Secondary Education for the Oconee County School System prior to her role at Empower.
Blackburn is a finalist for the award, along with Walnut Grove High School principal Lindsey Allen and Greenville Middle School principal Michael Perry.
