JCSS Awarded Community Partnership Grant To Benefit Ferst Readers
The Jackson County School System has been awarded a community partnership grant for the total of $13,100 to benefit Ferst Readers. The grant is through the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy at Georgia College and State University.
The grant was in coordination with JCSS' Public Library and Community Action Team, which was enacted to support the Ferst Readers initiative. Ferst Readers is a program that provides books to children ages birth to five years old, along with parent resources for families. The initiative supports the importance of early literacy in children prior to enrollment in Kindergarten.
The cost to support one child with a new book and parental resources every month for a year is $42. To learn more, visit www.jacksonschoolsga.org/ferst
