JCSS Closes Out Payments for HES
The Jackson County School System has completed its payments for the new Heroes Elementary School, marking another momentous day within the community as the first-year school is officially paid off.
Heroes Elementary is the second school to be funded by the school system without incurring new debt, following the August 2023 opening and February 2024 payment completion of Legacy Knoll Middle School. Heroes Elementary School was paid for by use of E-SPLOST funds, State Capital Outlay and General Funds.
"Being able to pay off Heroes Elementary School is yet another milestone for our community," Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. "Through deliberate, calculated strategic planning by our Board of Education, our system opened two new schools in two years, providing permanent, safe classrooms for our students and staff.
"As we continue to grow at a record pace, the partnership between the community and our system will remain of critical importance, especially as we look to construct additional schools in the near future. We will continue to be very strategic in our planning to ensure we remain good stewards of public funds and are continuously strengthening the future of public education within our county."
The Jackson County School System is the fastest growing school system in the state of Georgia, with a growing student enrollment of more than 40 percent in the past six years. To plan for the future, JCSS purchased future school sites in Hoschton in January 2024. JCSS is proposing three new schools to be built on this site, to be funded by E-SPLOST and a General Obligation Bond. The vote for the E-SPLOST renewal and General Obligation Bond will take place this March. The proposed G.O. Bond would replace the current Bond in place that constructed East Jackson High School, Gum Springs Elementary and South Jackson Elementary. That bond will be paid off in March.
