Lucie Ausburn Approved As WJMS Principal

Lucie Ausburn has been named the new principal of West Jackson Middle School, following a vote by the Jackson County Board of Education on Monday afternoon. Ausburn will begin her new position immediately. 

“We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Ausburn to the principal position at West Jackson Middle School,” Jackson County Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. “Mrs. Ausburn continuously exemplifies what being an educational leader is all about, and I know she will continue to put students in the best position to succeed.

"Mrs. Ausburn has been an asset to our school system since her arrival in June 2022, and I am pleased that she will have the opportunity to make an impact at West Jackson Middle School."

Ausburn spent the past two school years as an assistant principal at East Jackson High School, overseeing curriculum and instruction. During her time at EJHS, the school saw an increase of over 25 percent of students who took Advanced Placement exams. She also assisted eAST Jackson principal Dr. Matt Stratemeyer with the school earning a Blue Ribbon Beacon Status and helped implement the school’s new STEM curriculum, which will debut this August. 

“I am appreciative of Dr. Brown and the Board of Education for bestowing this tremendous opportunity upon me,” Ausburn said. “I am honored to join the West Jackson Middle School community as the new principal. Together, we will continue to foster an environment of academic excellence, collaboration, and engagement, ensuring every student thrives and reaches their full potential.”

Ausburn notes that she believes education is the key to unlocking each student’s unique potential and fostering a lifelong love of learning. Ausburn notes she intends to build a continued sense of community involvement and educational success at West Jackson Middle School. 

Ausburn previously served as an assistant principal, math teacher and instructional coach at Mountain View High School in Gwinnett County. She also served as the Gwinnett County Public Schools Mathematics Instructional Coach from 2017 to 2019. Auburn has also served as a mathematics teacher at East Hall High school and at the Gwinnett Intervention Education Center in Norcross. 

Ausburn holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia, where she also served on the infamous Red Coat Marching Band. She has a Master of Arts of Teaching from Georgia State University, with an emphasis in Secondary Mathematics. Ausburn earned her Tier 1 Leadership Certificate from the University of Georgia in May 2020 and will earn her Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership with a Tier II Certificate in July.
