Nick Gast Approved As Director of Student Support Services
The Jackson County Board of Education approved the hire of Nick Gast to serve as the new Director of Student Support Services. Gast is currently an assistant principal and athletic director at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County, a position he has held since 2017.
“It is a really exciting time of my career because it is a new step, a new challenge in a new district that I am excited to be a part of,” Gast said. “There are a lot of great things happening in Jackson County and I am looking forward to working there.”
Gast took over the athletic department at Parkview in 2017, overseeing the school winning multiple state championships and being named national champions in baseball. He was named the Region Athletic Director of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Gast was the head boys basketball coach at Parkview from 2013-2017.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nick Gast to our team here in Jackson County,” Jackson County School System Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. “Nick brings a wealth of public education experience to our system and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to serve the students of Jackson County.”
Gast will work alongside Assistant Superintendent Jason Wester in overseeing the Student Support Services Department, which oversees athletics, leadership, school social workers, discipline, wrap-around services and the alternative school.
Gast has a Bachelors and Masters of Education in Health and Physical Science from Valdosta State University and a Specialist in Educational Leadership Tier 2 from the University of West Georgia. Gast began his teaching and coaching career at Clinch County High School before leaving to serve as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Southern Louisiana University and Valdosta State.
