Stone Approved As EJHS Assistant Principal

Stone Approved As EJHS Assistant Principal

Katy Stone was approved Monday night to serve as the newest assistant principal at East Jackson High School. Stone will transition from her previous role as a science teacher within the building to an administrator.

“I would like to thank Dr. Matt Stratemeyer, Dr. Philip Brown and our Board of Education for this incredible opportunity,” Stone said. “I am most excited for the ability to serve our teachers and students, and just hopefully make school a really fun place to be for everybody. I am excited for the opportunities that come with this position.”

“I am thrilled to welcome Mrs. Stone to the administrative team at East Jackson High School,” EJHS Principal Dr. Matt Stratemeyer said. “Mrs. Stone quickly became an invaluable member of our staff, has played a critical role in our science department, and has fostered relationships with our staff and students.”

Stone’s presence was felt quickly at East Jackson. The staff recognized her as the EJHS Teacher of the Year last fall. She was named the Jackson County School System Teacher of the Year in Sept. 2024.

Stone is entering her third year at East Jackson High School. Along with her role as a science teacher, Stone has also served as a cross country and track and field coach. Through her various roles, which includes assisting with the launch of the high school STEM program, Stone has come to know and love the East Jackson community.

“I am biased, but I think we have the best kids in the state of Georgia,” Stone said. “They are funny, quirky, and like family. I am excited to work at East Jackson because you feel like you’re working for your own kids. It is the kids you love.”

Stone earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Master of Secondary Education in Science from the University of Georgia. The Mountain View High School graduate began her teaching career at Dacula High School, spending three years in Gwinnett County before moving to East Jackson.

Stone and her husband, Will, recently welcomed their first child, daughter Charlie.
