WJES' Westhafer Named Robert E. Yager Excellence Award Winner

West Jackson Elementary School's Dr. Stephanie Westhafer, a first grade teacher, was named the Robert E. Yager Excellence in Teaching Award winner by the National Science Teachers Association.

Westhafer received a monetary prize and free travel to attend the NSTA Conference in Philadelphia, Pa. this week. The Robert E. Yager Excellence Award is awarded to an educator who shows exemplary innovation in the field of science education.

Westhafer is a multi-award winning educator for her work in science education and reading education. In June 2023, Westhafer was sworn in by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to serve on the Georgia Council on Literacy. Westhafer was also named last April to the Georgia Science Teachers Association Board. She was also named the Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center's STEM Scholar in 2022 and was the Jackson County School System Teacher of the Year in 2023.
