Road closures affect bus routes

UPDATE: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 – 1:31 pm …

Road situations are still evolving: We have just been informed that the county is closing Lebanon Church Road at the Highway 82 end.

Unlike the closing of Deer Creek Farms subdivision (see below) which affects the west side, the Lebanon Church Road closing affects South Jackson Elementary School, East Jackson Middle School, and East Jackson Comprehensive High School.

Our transportation department is reaching out to the schools, and we are working to try to reach parents as well. Please share this message with any you think might be affected.

Stay tuned!

UPDATE — Tuesday, April 23, 2019:

Here’s an update as we continue to evaluate and monitor road conditions across Jackson County in the wake of Friday’s storms, which dumped 4 to 8 inches of water on us in a VERY short period of time.

Beginning with this afternoon’s routes, we will not be able to run buses in the Deer Creek Farms subdivisions for WJES, WJMS, and JCCHS because of road damage. The subdivision is served by Alicia Mincey (Bus 20-29: elementary and middle school) and Steve Steebe (Bus 20-16: high school)

We are in the process of contacting parents to let them know that the only pick-up and drop-off location will be at the entrance to the subdivision on Deer Creek Trail.

Other roads that remain impassable for our buses are Poplar Springs Road, Payneville Road, Lebanon Church Road, McCreery Road, Curk Roberts Road, and Smokey Hollow Road.

If your family is affected by any of these changes and you don’t yet have a resolution or you need more information, please call our transportation department at 706-367-3989.

ORIGINAL POST — Sunday, April 21, 2019:

From Dr. April Howard, Superintendent (also sent through Infinite Campus to the platforms you specify — if you don’t also get that notification, please call the school to check your data):

“Good Evening Jackson County Schools’ Families. Thank you for your patience and support as we safely navigated very challenging weather and travel conditions on Friday.

“We are preparing for a great week ahead but want to make you aware of several roads that are still impassable including Poplar Springs Road, Payneville Road, Lebanon Church Road, McCreery Road, Curk Roberts Road, and Smokey Hollow Road.

“Because our buses will not be able to access these roads, parents of students who reside on these roads will need to make other travel arrangements.

“We look forward to the next few weeks as we finish the 2018-2019 school year strong! Thank you.”
