    Wesley Wheeler, Teacher of the YearTOTY

    When asked about his philosophy of education, Mr. Wheeler said the following: "Teaching all stems around relationships; you have to have relationships with your students in order to get a student to do anything you want. If you don't know your student, your student doesn't know you. Why would anybody want to do anything for you? The old coaching cliche of kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care...that is what I try to base my teaching around. Getting to know my kids and them getting to know me, and to make sure they know I love them, and that I'm honest with them, and I'm real with them. If you're not consistently telling them the truth, they're never going to know what to believe, and then there's no trust. Without trust, there is no relationship. So my philosophy is about building relationships and being able to connect with the kids."

    "As an administrative assistant and a part of the front office staff, my role is to support every individual in our building. My philosophy of education is about making people feel comfortable, safe, and supported. I want staff and students to know that they are valued and supported and appreciated, and we're doing everything we can to make sure that they have the tools and encouragement they need to be better every day. I believe all students are unique and have the ability to learn something every day from each of us, whether it be support staff, teachers, peers, or just experience. In my support role, I try to do whatever it takes within my power to make sure students and teachers have what they need to be successful. At the end of the day, I want to make sure I use my whatever it takes mentality to support one of our eagles."
