Wood Named Assistant Principal

COMMERCE — East Jackson Comprehensive High School has announced the appointment of Jessie Wood as an assistant principal for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. Wood is currently the instructional coach at EJCHS. Her appointment to assistant principal was approved by the Jackson County School System Board of Education during the March 13 meeting. 

 

"I am thrilled to see Ms. Jessie Wood transition into the assistant principal role at EJCHS. She has demonstrated tremendous dedication and commitment to this school and the eastside community,” East Jackson Principal Dr. Matt Stratemeyer.

 

“Over the last several years, Ms. Wood has supported our students and staff as an instructional coach and has proven to be a highly effective leader. I look forward to her continued success in her new role."

 

Wood has been with the Jackson County School System for the past eight years, the past six she has spent at EJCHS. She has been an instructional coach for the past four years. 

 

Wood was named the EJCHS Teacher of the Year in 2019. 

 

Looking at her new appointment, Wood said she is looking forward to serving the eighth graders in their supportive role. 

 

“I am looking forward to continuing to support the 8th graders and their transition into the high school building,” Wood said.I am thankful to be surrounded by strong leaders who have helped shape my professional journey to this point.”

 

Wood holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia. She obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching: Secondary Social Studies Education from Georgia State University and her Education Specialists Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University. 

 

Wood and her husband, Adam, have two children, Vera Mae and Sanford.
