JCSS Approves FY27 Budget, Full Millage Rollback Rate

For the second consecutive year, the Jackson County Board of Education has approved a full millage rollback. The Board of Education approved the Fiscal Year 2027 millage rate and final budget during a meeting Thursday morning.
The new millage rate is now 15.253, the lowest in Jackson County in over 25 years. The Bond Millage rate remains the same at 2.6 mills. This marks the Board of Education lowering the millage rate for the 11th time in the past 13 years.
“I want to commend our Board of Education, our finance department and our leaders for being fiscally responsible, which in return has allowed us to implement a full millage rollback,” JCSS Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. “This is another win for our community and school system.”
The approval of the final budget ensures Jackson County will have a budget of $171 million in expenditures. Approximately 86 percent of the budget is personnel cost for the system, which includes state-mandated employer contribution increases in state-health premiums.
“It is no secret that Jackson County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country, and that means more people are wanting their children to grow up in our school system,” Brown said. “With that comes a tremendous responsibility to ensure we not only offer a top-tier educational system, but also ensure we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars. It is our duty to make sure the future of Jackson County is positioned for long-term success. We do not take that task lightly.”
